What makes EVVA 4KS different

EVVA is an Austrian lock manufacturer, and 4KS is its high security restricted key system. It is built for sites where a copied or picked key would be a serious problem: banks, cash handling areas, government, hospitals, utilities and high value retail.

Most cylinders check a key once, using pins along one edge. A 4KS key has six curves cut into its sides that position 12 springless sliders against two control bars, with a further bar checking the key profile. The key is checked four separate ways before the cylinder turns.

Three layers of copy protection

  • Legal. The system is patent protected until 2037, so unauthorised copies of keys and blanks can be stopped in law.
  • Controlled. Key blanks are only distributed to certified dealers, and keys are only cut on the authority of the system owner.
  • Technical. The key is very difficult to reproduce, and the machines able to cut 4KS are licensed.

Built to resist attack

  • Picking: multiple shear lines and springless sliders make it virtually pick proof.
  • Bumping: the slider design means a working bump key is virtually impossible to make.
  • Impressioning: the frictionless design defeats key impressioning.
  • Drilling: hardened carbide sliders and anti-drill pins protect the cylinder.

EVVA reports 4KS as SCEC approved at SL3 and tested to Australian standard AS4145.2.

Large, complex master key systems

With around 133 billion possible key combinations, 4KS supports deep, multi-level master key hierarchies for large sites and multi-site organisations, such as a supermarket chain or a bank branch network, while every individual key stays unique and recorded.

Cylinders come in formats to suit almost all common New Zealand locks, and padlocks can be keyed into the same system for gates, cages and plant rooms.

Frequently asked questions

Who can cut an EVVA 4KS key?

Only authorised EVVA dealers. 4KS key blanks are tightly controlled and the machines that can cut them are licensed, so a 4KS key cannot be copied at a hardware store or key kiosk. As an authorised agent we cut 4KS keys in-house, only on the signed request of your nominated key holders.

How long is EVVA 4KS patent protected?

EVVA states that the 4KS system is patent protected until 2037. The patent is what lets EVVA legally stop unauthorised copies of the key and blanks being made.

Will 4KS cylinders fit my existing locks?

4KS cylinders come in a wide range of formats to suit almost all common New Zealand and Australian locks, so in most cases we can swap the cylinders without changing your door hardware. We check every door on the site survey.

Is EVVA 4KS worth it for a small business?

4KS is aimed at sites where key control really matters: banks, cash handling, high value stock, pharmacies, data rooms and executive areas. For lower risk sites we also offer more economical restricted profiles. We will recommend what fits your risk and budget.
