Why upgrade from a combination lock
- Faster to open. Enter a code instead of turning a dial left and right several times.
- Easy code changes. Change the code yourself when staff leave, without a locksmith visit.
- Multiple users. Many electronic locks support separate manager and staff codes.
- Audit trail. Higher end locks record who opened the safe and when.
- Time delay and time lock. Options for businesses that handle cash, to deter hold-ups.
- No more worn dials. Old mechanical locks wear out and become hard to open reliably.

How it works
Tell us the make and model of your safe (a photo of the door and dial helps). We recommend a lock that suits the safe’s grade and how you use it, then fit it on site or in our Mt Roskill workshop. While we’re there we can service the bolt work and hinges so the whole safe runs smoothly.
Buying a safe? Most of the safes we sell, including reconditioned safes, can be supplied with an electronic lock fitted.
Frequently asked questions
Can my old combination safe be upgraded to an electronic lock?
In most cases, yes. Electronic safe locks from the major manufacturers are made to fit the standard lock mounting used by most safes, so we can usually remove the dial lock and fit an electronic keypad without modifying the door. We check the safe first and tell you if anything else needs attention.
What happens if the battery goes flat?
The batteries sit in the keypad on the outside of the door, so they can be changed without opening the safe, and most locks warn you well before they run out. Your code is kept in the lock and is not lost when the battery is changed.
Does changing the lock affect my insurance rating?
The safe should keep its rating if the replacement lock is of an appropriate class for the safe. We fit high security locks suited to graded safes, and we can advise on the right lock for your safe and your insurer.
Can you change the combination on my existing dial lock instead?
Yes. If you would rather keep the mechanical lock, we service and re-code combination and key locks too.
